Updates Updates Updates

Hey there,

It's been a second. Many a news to be shared. I recently started a new full time position with a growing montessori preschool who was a client of my previous company. I know I'm not the only MT out there who is constantly getting burned out, not just because of busy scheduals, but just being burnt out of music as well. With my new position, I lead music with infants, toddlers and preschool classes two times a week and the rest of the time I am just a teacher for them through their normal day. It's still early into my transition, but Im finding more enjoyment in my position, and I'm obviously able to connect with the kids more, because I don't just see them at a community group once a week, I get to see them multiple days throughout the week and not just for music.

I also still retain a part time position with my music therapy specific job as well. I have one full day where I do my community groups, music lessons and individual therapies. The mornings are the same every week and then the afternoons switch bi weekly. As well as Saturday morning when needed for events and a couple regular clients.

Why did I switch positions? Some main reasons were there was alot of cancellation of sessions for weather or health or travel reasons. So much so that for that full time job I was only working maybe 16 hours a week, which made my paychecks barely livable. Another thing is that I was driving 1000 miles a week for that job(And there really wasn't mile reimbursement). So when the opportunity arose to work with a group of kids I got along well with, and the chance to switch things up and have a bit of diversity to my day, I took it. Because I couldn't financially keep the other job even if i liked the clients, and that was starting to affect my ability to connect and love my job at all.

Besides job stuff, I am starting to plan my wedding for Spring of 25'. We are working on pinning down an event space. It's hard to get people to reply to emails though, and there are very few spaces that meet our criteria but aren't half of our budget. But it's in over a year so we have time to keep looking.

Im hoping to start posting some more to the site as I have time. Posting more of my themed session plans as I create them and talking about how they implement in my groups. So be on the look out for those.

Until next time,

Riley BC

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

Im a music therapy intern learning about pediatric music therapy programs. My blog will discuss topics discussed and covered in my internship that maybe other MT interns aren't learning in other internship populations.
